The 100 Club Monument Flagpole - Sterling Bay 1100 W. Grand, Chicago
Landmark flag honors fallen First Responders On July 2nd, Sterling Bay raised a landmark 200’ flagpole at 1100 W Grand. Flying both American and Chicago flags, the site recognizes first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The flags are visible from the I-90 interstate and also serve as a welcome to the city. A ceremony with elected officials, policemen and women, firefighters, paramedics and members of The 100 Club, an organization that provides for the families of fallen first responders in Cook and Lake Counties, will take place at a later date. “I am a proud Chicagoan, and this is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the hard-working men and women, and their families, who risk their lives for the city we all call home,” Sterling Bay managing principal Andy Gloor said in a news release. “This project is such a beautiful tribute to our first responders who put their lives on the line every day to keep our families, businesses and communities safe,” said CEO of the 100 Club of Chicago, Joe Ahern. “Thank you to Sterling Bay for recognizing our heroes.” Donate Here : https://www.100clubchicago.org/donate... DJI MAVIC AIR || First Impressions For Filmmakers
Today we took delivery of a DJI MAVIC AIR. With only one battery and very little time, we took to the skies and are here to report back with our first impressions. It's a cracking drone that matches the performance of the Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 series but at a fraction of the size. Soon we will release a video covering the best settings for the Mavic Air but in the meantime, check out our first impressions video to see if this is the drone for you.

Motor Construction - LOT of info, mostly correct
Things like single wire vs multi stranded are highly debatable among engineers and the difference is likely very small. In this situation, if you have just one wrap of wire down the stator, single stranded will be better. If you will have overlapping wires, multistandard will give you more of a 'fill effect' on the stator... I've left these debates out of the video and explained it how I see it because it would have made the video maybe three times longer. Single stranded wire is also cheaper and easier to produce.

Brother Hobby R5 2207: https://goo.gl/QYPqe7
Sumax 2207: Don't get this motor, it's no good
2500-2700kv recommended for 5" and 4S regardless of your quad. If it's heavy, use a shallow pitch blade like the DAL T5040C.
2100-2400kv recommended for 6".
My favorite motors right now: BBB 2207, Hyperlite 2207, ZMX X30
The motors I've listed above are all good motors. The ones from banggood are now questionable in light of this new information. I will continue to use banggood but no longer recommend anyone buying anything from them unless you know what you're doing and accept the risk.
The Brother Hobby R5 2207 is a new motor that is not yet popularized. It is basically just an update on the Hyperlite/BH 2207 with the new shaft.
The Underground FPV BB 2207 sale will end on December 31. This is a top of the line motor that is on sale for $14.99. If you need some new motors, you can't go wrong here. (Don't get the BBB 1606 or 2206, they're no good...overheat very easily)
The ZMX motors are 100% hand wound because the factory does not want to invest in automatic winding machines. In addition, the motor is mostly just one wrap of wire down the length of the stator. This combination is what makes the wraps look so damn good and neat. Brother Hobby on the other hand, ONLY uses winding machines. Doesn't mean they're worse in any way, just another way to do it. Doesn't come out quite as neat.
I can go on forever...

Strobes on a Drone: North American Survival Systems
In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew tests a series of strobe lights supplied by North American Survival Systems. Designed specifically for drones, the DS-30-1 strobe light is available in a variety of colors include white, red, blue and green – as well as an infrared version designed for maximum visibility for pilots using night vision gear (NVG). The strobes can be connected to any power source providing between 4.5 volts and 11 volts. North American Survival Systems also produces the EF-20A-1 Electronic Flare. This self-contained unit is push-button operated and fully waterproof. The episode concludes with a daylight test to determine if these strobes can be used to extend visual line of sight (VLOS).

Fly-Away On First Flight - The Story I Did Not Want To Write
Hubsan H501SS like the one that flew away
The drone flew away. Let me just rip the bandage off a fresh wound.
There really isn't much more about how and why that will help me at the moment. A search is underway. A search has essentially been underway from the moment the drone did not touch down where and when it should have. But the drone flew away and there was nothing I could have done about it. This much is certain.
Before you dive for the comment tab and say otherwise, let me assure you that short of electing not the fly the drone in the first place (a sentiment shared by more people than I care to admit) there is nothing I could have done differently in hindsight that would have prevented a fly away under what turns out to be unusual conditions.
The event in question: Within hours of receiving my Hubsan H501SS and controller, after charging the batteries, doing the preliminary binding and setting checks, attaching all the antennas and making sure all the signals and telemetry checks out, I took my drone to an unused baseball field within a fenced-in lot behind a neighborhood school in the hour before sunset, hoping to shoot some HD video and take some photos during my first flight.
Everything went well for the first five or six minutes while I was hovering and maneuvering the quadcopter at eye level. The H50SS operated rock steady vertically in GPS lock and settled nicely in altitude hold a few feet off the turf. Hoping to get video and photos of my neighborhood from above the roofline, I eased the left paddle up to get a steady video angle to the west as the drone gained altitude. At about 80 ft overhead the drone suddenly pitched wildly and began an uncontrolled orbit that arched out and brought the quadcopter up another 60 feet and 100's of feet out to the northeast of the ballpark where I was now standing and gaping at the drone as if it were a kite that had busted it's string.

That was the last I saw of my Hubsan H501SS
Hubsan H501SS in white with advanced controller
Hubsan H501SS is a GREAT DRONE. The advanced controller with it's omni 2.4 Ghz and 5.8 GHz FPV line-of-sight paddle antennas provided precise handling capabilities while the drone was in controlled flight. Signal loss was most likely due to unusual RF interference in the general area as we will see.
After days of climbing on more than a few apartment building roofs (with permission, of course) and conducting a systematic ground search of the area a fellow drone pilot got in touch with me on Facebook and graciously volunteered to fly his DJI Phantom 3 over the roofline and video the neighborhood trees, etc. Shockingly my new friend Denny nearly lost his DJI P3 to the same RF interference. In exactly the same manner in which I watched my H501SS fly away, the DJI P3 pitches wildly as it breaks GPS lock and careens off to the northeast, then gains altitude.
My YouTube video of Denny flying his DJI Phantom 3 in an effort to locate my Hubsan. Shock and horror as the same radio interference that caused my drone to fly away threatened to take Denny's DJI P3 away with it also.
Lucky for my friend Denny he was able to retrieve his DJI P3 in return-to-home mode. I'm still searching for my Hubsan. The weather has not been great over the weekends and my neighbors have not been out in their yards much this year so far. Eventually folks will get around to clearing fallen branches and debris from earlier snows. I have flyers with my cellphone number offering a reward taped to lamp posts around the area and the local police have a missing properties report on file should anyone turn it in. Wish me luck.
(Note: Oak Park is a suburb directly west of Chicago. It is a village with the second largest municipal population in the state. The Oak Park Village Hall is 3/4 of a mile from what was my take-off site. In the parking lot of village hall is the police radio tower serving four adjacent communities fire/police/municipal agencies. This was overlooked in my planning but is an obvious error when looked at in the aforementioned hindsight)

This is kinda BIG
Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation - facebook
Security system of the Russian Khmeimim air base and Russian Naval CSS point in the city of Tartus successfully warded off a terrorist attack with massive application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) through the night of 5th – 6th January, 2018.
As evening fell, the Russia air defence forces detected 13 unidentified small-size air targets at a significant distance approaching the Russian military bases.
Ten assault drones were approaching the Khmeimim air base, and another three – the CSS point in Tartus.
Six small-size air targets were intercepted and taken under control by the Russian EW units. Three of them were landed on the controlled area outside the base, and another three UAVs exploded as they touched the ground.
Seven UAVs were eliminated by the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile complexes operated by the Russian air defence units on 24-hours alert.
The Russian bases did not suffer any casualties or damages.
The Khmeimim air base and Russian Naval CSS point in Tartus are functioning on a scheduled basis.
Currently, the Russian military experts are analyzing the construction, technical filling and improvised explosives of the captured UAVs.
Having decoded the data recorded on the UAVs, the specialists found out the launch site.
It was the first time when terrorists applied a massed drone aircraft attack launched at a range of more than 50 km using modern GPS guidance system
Technical examination of the drones showed that such attacks could have been made by terrorists at a distance of about 100 kilometers.
Engineering decisions applied by terrorists while attacks on the Russian objects in Syria could be received from one of countries with high-technological capabilities of satellite navigation and remote dropping control of professionally assembled improvised explosive devices in assigned coordinates. All drones of terrorists are fitted with pressure transducers and altitude control servo-actuators.
Terrorists’ aircraft-type drones carried explosive devices with foreign detonating fuses.
The Russian specialists are determining supply channels, through which terrorists had received the technologies and devices, as well as examining type and origin of explosive compounds used in the IEDs.
The fact of usage of strike aircraft-type drones by terrorists is the evidence that militants have received technologies to carry out terrorist attacks using such UAVs in any country.

Can the Hubsan H501S Do Way-Points using the H7000 Transmitter?
Hubsan is known for its fly out of the box quad copters. What was first thought a mistake with firmware V1.2.17, with follow me not working, was actually a hidden Easter egg of way-points. Watch this video as I use the H7000 transmitter to fly the popular H501S to 5 different points. See part two for the quad recording. Thanks Hubsan. Next test, can i fly it out of radio range? Problems with this setup? Battery showing 0 volts on the H7000 blue screen, but does show the correct voltage on the bigger screen. History: The H7000 transmitter comes with the X4 H109S quad. It binds to the H501S by holding down start and power. Problems? wrong voltage on blue screen, unit vibrates telling you voltage is low. So for now, i watch the onscreen display and monitor the receiver volts for now. I said the button was follow me, but that is on the pro transmitter that comes with the H501S.
